How did week one go for me?

For this project, I will be sticking to fish/veggies on the weekdays for all three meals. I will then eat poultry/beef on weekends but 2 out of my three meals. This habit/action of mine will be relating to food.

The reason why I am choosing this plan is that my family consumes a lot of meat, all of our groceries are either red meat such as beef or chicken. Eating chicken and beef is the number one reason why slaughterhouses produce at a quicker rate. In the consumption of meat that Americans sets a breaking record in 2018. Americans will consume 222.2 pounds of meat this year in total, that is alarming. The reason why people are running away from carbohydrates is that people are more in favor of meat. Carbohydrates are seen as a negative in the society

An alternative habit/action is what if I just cut off beef and poultry in my daily meals. Instead of eating chicken or beef two out 3 meals I had on the weekend, I’d just eat only veggies on the weekends.

This is pretty realistic but my bank account will cry. You took an average of how much Americans buy meat, on average they spend $244 a year just on beef and the average of Americans spend on poultry is $172, and spend an average of $169 on pork (Maxfield. 2017). As a working high school student, I don’t get paid much. I spend up to $10-15 per day on food which is on average $70-105 per week, I’m spending more money on food than the average college student that spends $10-12 and per week $70-84 (Kissam. 2018).

HOW HAS THE FIRST WEEK TREATED ME?!

Let me tell you, this has been the hardest week for me. There were so many temptations that I've given in. Just take a look at the spreadsheet of my meals and snacks of the week

On day one, I was tempted to eat fried chicken.... it was the mid-night munchies calling me. I was having grease withdrawals, it was bad I'm telling you. There was day 3, that day I was very hungry and I ate everything I saw or wanted. Take a look at day 3! I was eating desserts, fries and then at the end of the day, I ate about 10 pieces of meat - bummer.

What needs to change is how I make my meals

  1. I wonder how much worse beef is for the environment than chicken or pork? Is fish that much better? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-most-polluting-protein-environmental-impact-of-beef-pork-poultry/

  2. First of all I like your title, it's a good hook! Second, I agree with with your statement about "the consumption of meat that Americans sets a breaking record in 2018" based on your cited article from the Seattle Times because they give relatively detailed evidence to support that clam, ie "average consumer will eat 222.2 pounds of red meat and poultry this year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), surpassing a record set in 2004..."
