One week later...

A GIRL HAS CAVED IN!!!

If you see the number of reds within this week, I have totally failed. I made a commitment to eat only meat such as pork, beef, and chicken on the weekends 2/3 of my meals - that worked! HOWEVER, the start of my week followed through the rest of this week... I was like, "I'm just going to eat popcorn chicken since I'm hungry and that's what Oasis serves." I'm telling you, Oasis popcorn chicken is addicting and it's one of the things they sell that's popular.

However, the reason why I've been eating meat consistently is that my family doesn't understand the term of being pescatarian. If you come from a culture that uses a lot of meat in their dishes, you would know how hard it is not to eat the food made by family members. What also made it hard was that I didn't have time to go grocery shopping for the food I needed to make for the week. ANOTHER factor is that this school week has been very stressful. I legit went down the drain of regret when I saw my consumption of red meat this week. I've gotten sick of eating red meat that I morally and physically didn't feel well but somehow I still ate allllllllll of these foods - it's sickening.  But, five out of six people who gave up eating meat convert back to eating meat (Herzog, 2014).

Before I started this project, I have been having a normal American diet. Ever since I started this personal impact project, it has gone down to being a normal European. What the difference you may ask... well let me enlighten your mind. Compared to a normal American diet, the normal European diet saves about 2250 liters of water.

A 16.9 fl. oz bottle will contain about 500 mL of liquid, meaning that it takes 2 bottles that are of 16.9 fl. oz. can make 1 liter. https://www.quora.com/How-many-16-9-fl-oz-water-bottles-equals-1-liter

For every liter, it equates to 1,000 mL. It only takes half of the liter to fill up a water bottle since you only need 500 mL. If we take it back to having a normal European diet, it'd save about 2250 liter of water so let's see how much water bottles do we save.

1 liter - 1,000 mL

2250 liter * 1,000 mL = 2,250,000 mL

2,250,000 mL / 500 mL needed

  1. What's the environmental Impact of this exactly?

  2. If you know that you come from a culture that consumes lots of meat and have meat almost in their everyday meal, would it be better/easier if you choose to do another project instead. Like taking shower for a less amount of time or do something rather than this that's affecting your family's daily meal?

    1. I acknowledge what you are trying to say. I chose this habit because of that main reason. Any habit I wanted to do wouldn't be any easier, taking shorter showers would be really hard because I love my hot showers. I want to agree that it does impact my daily life when it comes to my family's daily meal. If you can provide me easier environmental habits that I can adapt to, please feel free to link some websites to educate me.

  3. Hang in there Edgie! At least you've made some progress. Looks like you saved a lot of water! If there anything else you can compare this to? Like by eating less meat, how much greenhouse gases are you producing?

  4. I agree ! Cutting down on meat is really hard, it's tough. I liked how you provided sort of like spreadsheet to track how you are doing with this commitment.
